The  Harper's   Around 1852, Thomas and Alexandrina Harper brought their family to Sunderland from Scotland.  They had married in Cromarty and had given birth to two children before arriving at Sunderland. Thomas worked as a contractor for Ballast Cranes on the construction of the Sunderland Docks. They later moved to Percy Main, North Shields and later to Jarrow and South Shields, at some stage Thomas and Alexandrina had returned to Scotland where Thomas worked at Shotts, Lanarkshire and this is where Alexandrina  gave birth to their youngest child.

 

The  Stobb's  William Stoups, son of John Stoups (Farmer) from Scotland? married Mary Ann Lee in 1856, in Percy Main, North Shields. Williams name of 'Stoups' changed to Stubbs on later Census returns, while his son Thomas's name became Stobbs? It is believed that 'Stobbs' was the original spelling of the name.

 

The McGhee's  James McGhee was heading back to Scotland at the end of the last war, but 'stopped off' at Dunston-on-Tyne, he made his home there after marrying Florence Stobbs.

 

 The Lee's, Dickinson's and Tweddel's  came from the Haltwhistle and surrounding areas. John Lee (Teacher) married Elizabeth Tweddell in 1808 daughter of a Farmer, their son John jnr (labourer) moved his own family to Industrialized Percy Main. The names of Lee, Dickinson and Tweddel can be found today in the areas around Haltwhistle, Scots Gap and Haydon Bridge.

 

The Holland's. The Hollands can be traced back to West Sleakburn, Bedlington, Northumberland in the 1700's
